A monograph by New York-based artist Peter Sutherland. Having continuously documented street culture—including skateboarding and graffiti—from the inside, the artist presents a comprehensive volume focusing on his collage practice, an endeavour he has quietly and persistently pursued for over a decade.
Based in New York since the late 1990s, Sutherland has photographed marginal cultures and landscapes that exist outside mainstream power structures. This publication features a body of work created by physically tearing and taping together his vast archive of photographs. The manual process of assembling fragments from different times and spaces—urban billboards, expansive natural environments, and portraits of people living on the streets—functions as a physical practice for engaging directly with the world.
The volume concludes with a text by Devrim Bayar, Senior Curator at KANAL-Centre Pompidou, a newly established contemporary art museum in Brussels, Belgium.
