A publication by photographer and artist Alan Eglinton. This book compiles English texts observed on t-shirts worn by people on the streets and public transport during Eglinton’s residency in Taipei in 2011. In non-English-speaking urban spaces, English phrases are casually consumed as decorative or stylistic elements, frequently containing grammatical imperfections and unintended spelling mistakes. Rather than dismissing these as mere errors, the artist reframes them—discovering in their accidental nature a distinctive sense of humour and a poetic sensibility akin to concrete poetry. Serving both as an observational record of urban life and a beautiful object of language, the work subtly illuminates the nuances of everyday linguistic consumption. Design by Same Dust.
