Walking in Place 3: Tokyo / Mike Slack

A monograph by US-based photographer Mike Slack, who is also widely recognised as the co-founder of the independent photobook label, The Ice Plant. This third volume in his 'Walking in Place' series—where the artist intersects the codes of a specific city with his own introspective awareness—focuses on Tokyo. Captured within are the strange and utterly unique atmospheres of the city, from unexpected curves, stairwells, tile-work, cats, and shadow play, to signs, lifestyles, and hypothetical vistas. While objectively surveying Tokyo’s urban topography, Slack simultaneously renders a highly subjective and fragmented portrait of the city. As with the first two books in the series, this volume is presented as a compact, soft paperback, contributing to the tactile and refreshing nature of the series.
