写真家の工藤司と、望月製本所が運営するギャラリー「SHABA」の協働によって制作されたノートブック。工藤が愛用するSHABAのオリジナルノートブック「A codex」。紙の束を糸でかがっただけのミニマルなそのノートに、工藤が日々書き留めていたテキストやスケッチからイメージを抽出し、小口にシルクスクリーン、表紙には箔押しで印刷されています。また、巻頭と巻末ページには、工藤によるオリジナルプリントが挟み込まれています。このノートは、糸かがり袋断裁なしで製作され、通常は本ができる過程である断裁前の状態で手に取ることができます。

"A codex" is the original SHABA notebook favored by Kudo. Inspired by how Kudo used this minimalist notebook—essentially a bundle of paper bound simply with thread—to jot down the seeds of his ideas, a special collaboration item was created for his solo exhibition at SHABA, "he was, he is.". The notebook features Kudo's freehand imagery applied via silkscreen printing on the edges and foil stamping on the cover. Additionally, original prints by Kudo are tucked into the front and back pages.
