オランダ人デザイナー、ヘラ・ヨンゲリウス（Hella Jongerius）の作品集。2026年3月から9月にかけてドイツの「ヴィトラ・デザイン・ミュージアム（Vitra Design Museum）」、2026年10月から2027年6月にかけて「ハンブルク美術工芸博物館（Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg）」で開催された展覧会に伴い刊行された。

本書は、作者のスタジオ・アーカイブから、触覚的で遊び心に満ちたテキスタイル、陶芸、家具などを紹介する一冊である。

30年以上にわたり、作者は工芸と産業、理論と直感を結びつけながら、インダストリアルデザインの領域を形づくるうえで重要な役割を果たしてきた。テキスタイル、陶芸、家具、インテリアにまたがるその仕事は、常にリサーチを基盤としたスタジオ実践と、素材、色彩、形態への深い関心に根ざしている。

本書は、2024年に「ヴィトラ・デザイン・ミュージアム」が取得した作者のスタジオ・アーカイブを手がかりに、その仕事の全体像を探る。「Jongeriuslab」の展開をたどるプロトタイプや実験、リサーチ資料に、これまでにないかたちでアクセスすることができる。

精選された論考、長年の協働者であるデザイン理論家、ルイーズ・スハウエンベルフ（Louise Schouwenberg）と作者による個人的な対話、そしてグラフィックデザイナー、ヨースト・グローテンス（Joost Grootens）による視覚的に力強いデザインを通して、本書は作者の仕事が持つ、重層的で、リサーチに根ざし、詩的な性格を映し出す。アーカイブ資料、貴重なスタジオ写真、オブジェクトの細部を捉えた図版は、その制作の舞台裏を親密な視点から紹介している。

本書は、完璧さよりも不完全さを、完成品よりもプロセスを、そして何よりも好奇心を重んじる制作のあり方を描き出す、作者の実践のポートレートである。

Tactile and playful textiles, ceramics, furniture and more from Hella Jongerius' studio archive

For over three decades, Dutch designer Hella Jongerius (born 1963) has played a seminal role in shaping the field of industrial design, bridging craft and industry, theory and intuition. Her work spans textiles, ceramics, furniture and interiors—always rooted in a research-based studio practice and a deep engagement with material, color and form. Whispering Things explores Jongerius’ oeuvre through the lens of her studio archive, acquired by the Vitra Design Museum in 2024. It offers unprecedented access to the prototypes, experiments and research materials that trace the evolution of Jongeriuslab. Through carefully curated essays; a personal conversation between Hella Jongerius and her long-time collaborator Louise Schouwenberg; and a visually compelling design by Joost Grootens, the book reflects the layered, research-driven and poetic nature of Jongerius’ work. Archival materials, rare studio images and detailed object views offer an intimate look behind the scenes.
