第60回ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ国際美術展におけるバチカン館の展示を記録した作品集。本展は、ヴェネツィア、ジュデッカ島の女子刑務所を舞台に、受刑者自身が鑑賞者を案内するという前例のない形式を取り、芸術、詩、人間性、そして権利が交錯する空間を生み出しました。キュレーションは、ヴェネツィアの美術館「パラッツォ・グラッシ」ディレクターのブルノ・ラシーヌと、ポンピドゥー・センター・メッスのディレクターのキアラ・パリージが担当し、現代を代表するブックデザイナー、イルマ・ボームがアートディレクションを手がけています。8人の国際的アーティストと女性受刑者たちとの対話の記録を中心に、教皇フランシスコによる序文、枢機卿ジョゼ・トレンティノ・デ・メンドンサによる考察、ハンス・ウルリッヒ・オブリストと哲学者のジュリア・クリステヴァの対談も収録。タイトル「WITH MY EYES」は、シェイクスピア『ソネット14』と『ヨブ記』42章5節に由来し、視覚と知覚が交錯する詩的なモチーフとして展開されます。
With My Eyes is a catalogue published by Marsilio Arte documenting the Pavilion of the Holy See at the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. This groundbreaking volume captures the physical and conceptual opening of the Women’s Prison in Giudecca, Venice, where incarcerated women actively participated in the project—not only as hosts but as collaborators in shaping a unique artistic experience. The publication weaves together art, poetry, humanity, and the theme of rights, while offering a profound reflection on institutional power and societal norms.
Curated by Bruno Racine (Palazzo Grassi) and Chiara Parisi (Centre Pompidou-Metz), and realized under the visionary art direction of Dutch designer Irma Boom, the book records the encounters and dialogue between eight internationally acclaimed artists—Maurizio Cattelan, Claire Fontaine, Bintou Dembélé, Simone Fattal, Sonia Gomes, Corita Kent, Marco Perego & Zoe Saldana, and Claire Tabouret—and the incarcerated women living within the prison. The title, With My Eyes, is drawn from a poetic intersection of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 14 and the Book of Job (42:5), invoking a layered meditation on sight, perception, and the transformative potential of art.
