ドイツを拠点に活動する写真家、サスキア・グローネベルク（Saskia Groneberg）の作品集。本書は、無秩序な隙間に置かれ、その目的がしばしば見過ごされている植物の配置に対し、慈しみのある皮肉を込めた眼差しを向けています。サンセベリア、サボテン、多肉植物、そしてその他の控えめな植物たちは、大袈裟に構えることなく、現代のオフィス環境の備品としてひっそりと佇んでいます。

こうした空間の第一の秩序は合理的であることです。そのため、多くの場合私物である緑は、デスクや棚を越えて育ち、広がり、コーナーや通路を占拠し、空間を隔てながらも同時に繋いでいます。切り取られた構図や見通し、あるいは薄れゆく痕跡や伸びやかな仕草を通して、グローネベルグはオフィス植物の周囲を巡り、その多くが周辺的な存在に留まっている実態を明らかにします。

Saskia Groneberg takes a tenderly ironic look at plant arrangements whose often unrecognized purpose lies in disorganized interstices. Without much fuss, sansevieria, cacti, succulents, and other sparse plants nestle as inventory in modern office environments. The primary order of these spaces is rational. Thus, the mostly private greenery grows and sprawls across desks and shelves, occupying corners and aisles, dividing spaces and connecting them. With cutaways and vistas, as a faded trace or in expansive gesture, Saskia Groneberg circles the radius of the office plant and reveals its mostly peripheral status.
