This is the second volume in a documentary series by New York-based designer Joyce Shi, recording the city's typography. This book focuses on the New York streetscape from 2023 to 2024, following the pandemic.
From everyday instructional signs, shop signage, and graffiti to anonymous handwritten letters, the diverse typography that constitutes the urban landscape is captured in 295 photographs.
Shi, who studied design at Parsons School of Design, continues her exploration of typography. The book's editorial approach is systematic yet simultaneously organic in its structure, allowing the reader to experience it as if discovering various typeforms while walking through the city. It is an invaluable resource, documenting the practical typography of the contemporary city.
