The annual of the Tokyo TDC Awards, an international competition for typography and design launched in 1990, has arrived. Since its founding, the award has continually questioned the definitions and possibilities of typographic and graphic expression, firmly establishing itself as a leading international platform where diverse forms of graphic design converge.
The 2025 edition presents 486 selected works, chosen from 1,636 entries from Japan and 1,954 from overseas. It features prize-winning works, nominations, and selected entries from all eleven juried categories, including editorial design, type design, logos, packaging, posters, websites, and film. The principal typefaces used in each project are also noted, making the discovery of their unique characters another enjoyable aspect of the book. Featuring a foreword by John Warwicker, guest judge for the Type Design category, along with comments and brief biographies from the award winners, the volume presents the contemporary state of typography and graphic design through its rich visuals and insightful texts.
This year's art direction and design are by Kim Dohyung, the South Korean designer who also created the visuals for the TDC Exhibition 2023, with the work pages designed by Takehiko Muramatsu.
