ロンドン発の写真雑誌『Hotshoe』第214号は、スティーブン・ショア（Stephen Shore）特集です。1970年代、それまで芸術表現として認められていなかったカラー写真を用い、アメリカの凡庸な風景を静謐に捉えた「ニューカラー」の旗手として、ショアは現代写真のあり方に今なお多大な影響を与え続けています。本号では、カラー写真の金字塔『Uncommon Places』や、初期の旅の記録『American Surfaces』など、代表作を含むショアの作品群を網羅的に収録。また、現代のアメリカを代表する写真家の一人であるトッド・ハイド（Todd Hido）との対話を通じて、ショアの視座がいかに次世代へと継承されているかを紐解きます。

As the first living photographer since Alfred Stieglitz to be honored with a solo show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Stephen Shore remains a titan of the medium. This special monograph brings together Shore’s iconic work with a discussion led by photographer Todd Hido, a self-penned text in Crude Metaphors, and expert introductions by Dr. Tom Cornelius.

Shore is widely regarded as a trailblazer who brought conceptual color photography to the forefront of art history. Through his signature "deadpan" aesthetic and focus on everyday subjects, he shifted the photographic focus away from storytelling and toward the formal exploration of space and time. This approach encourages viewers to move beyond passive looking, inviting a more deliberate and rewarding interaction with the image.
